It is manufactured in Louisville, Kentucky. It has been the best-selling vehicle mid-size SUV, Sport Utility Vehicle in the United States each year since its introduction, and is one of the vehicles instrumental in turning the SUV from a special-interest vehicle into one of the most popular vehicle types on the road.

The 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Track is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, available in 8 trims, ranging from the XLT 4.0 litres 4 by 2 to the limited 4.6 litres 4 by 4.  The limited 4.6 litres 4 by 4 is equipped with standard 4.6-litres, V8, 292-horsepower engine that achieves 14 MPG, miles per gallon in the city and 20 on the highway. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

New from the ground up, the Explorer replaced the Bronco II as Ford's compact sport-utility vehicle. Both 2- and 4-door body styles went on sale. The 2-door used a 102.1-inch wheelbase, and the 4-door a 111.9-inch wheelbase. The sole engine in early years was a 4.0-litres V6. Both body styles came with either on-demand 4-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. Antilock brakes operate only in rear-wheel drive. Power steering was standard. Until 1994, Mazda sold a nearly identical 2-door sport-utility called Navajo.

The 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Track is the all-new second generation Sport Track with rugged new exterior styling and a versatile interior with rubber floor covering. Standard equipment includes a 210-horsepower 4.0 liters V6, 5-speed automatic transmission, composite cargo box with two-tier storage ability. Ford claims that the 2007 Sport Trac is more than 400 percent stiffer than the 2005 version. The stiffer body, along with adoption of the Explorer's independent rear suspension, gives the vehicle dramatically improved handling and ride characteristics. Ford Explorer, due to its various attractive features and luxurious comforts, it is one of the favorite choices of the four-wheeler buyers.
