Volkswagen Golf
Volkswagen AG, or VW, is an automobile manufacturer situated in Wolfsburg, Germany. It forms the heart of Volkswagen Group, one of the world's four largest car producers. The origin of the company dates back to the 1930s and was founded in 1937 by German Auto Association headquartered at Wolfsburg, Germany. Some of the key people involve Bernd Pischetsrieder who is the Chairman of the Board of Management. Volkswagen is part of the Volkswagen group, along with Audi, NSU, SEAT, Skoda, Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini.
The Volkswagen Golf is a four-door hatchback offered in GL and GLS trim levels. Some of its long list of advantageous features includes high-quality cabin materials, utility of hatchback design and fuel-efficient diesel engine. Although it has a few setbacks that are base 2.0-liter engine's weak acceleration and so-so mileage, more costly than its peers and too much body roll when cornering. The VW Golf continues on its current-generation platform for a partial-year run in 2006.
Volkswagen's 115-horsepower, base four-cylinder engine is outclassed by just about every other competitor these days. Standard GL features include air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, a CD player, headrests in all five seating positions, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, driver-seat height adjustment and power windows, locks and mirrors.
The base engine is a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder that makes just 115 horsepower. A better choice is the 1.9-liter diesel four-cylinder that is rated for 100 hp and 177 pound per feet of torque. Both engines are available with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. In terms of safety the car provides four-wheel antilock disc brakes, side airbags for front occupants and head curtain airbags front and rear are standard on all Golfs.
