Toyota Prius
The Toyota Motor Corporation, or simply called Toyota, is a Japanese multinational corporation and the world's second largest automaker that manufactures automobiles, trucks, buses and robots and the world's eighth largest company. The company's headquarters are in Toyota, Aichi, Japan with factories and offices around the world. The company was founded in 1933 by Kiichiro Toyoda. Since then, Toyota has become one of the most successful and profitable Japanese companies and one of the world's most industry leading automobile corporations. The Toyota Prius is the world's first commercially mass produced and marketed hybrid automobile. It went on sale in Japan in 1997, and worldwide in 2001. By the end of 2003, nearly 160,000 units had been produced for sale in Japan, Europe, and North America. It was the first such vehicle to offer the practicality of a typical economy car along with the outstanding fuel mileage of a hybrid. The Toyota Prius is available as a four-door hatchback only, in one well-appointed model. The standard features list includes power windows, locks and mirrors, automatic climate control, tilt steering wheel with audio and climate controls, a six-speaker CD stereo, cruise control, trip computer and 15 inch aluminum wheels. Options like a DVD-based navigation system, Bluetooth hands-free phone technology and a nine-speaker premium audio system with a six-disc CD changer are also available, along with leather seating and xenon headlights. The available Smart Key system allows you to lock or unlock the doors and start the car with the key safely in your pocket or purse. The optional voice command system permits voice control of features ranging from temperature adjustment to Bluetooth cell phone dialing. Toyota Prius consists of a 1.5 liter gasoline engine and two electric drive motor or generators. The gas engine produces 76 horsepower and 82 pound feet of torque, while the electric motors generate the equivalent of 67 horsepower and 295 pound feet of torque. The Toyota Prius features an elegantly simple continuously variable transmission of sorts, called a power split device. It provides the ease of a conventional automatic transmission, but there are no gears to shift, drive belts, torque converter or clutch. The fuel mileage is rated at 60 in city and 51 on highway.
Toyota Prius has been setting new standards in automotive design and engineering for two decades with a steadfast commitment to bold innovation, precision manufacturing, and exhilarating performance.
