Saab 9-5
Saab is a line of automobiles manufactured by Saab Automobile AB, currently a subsidiary of the General Motors Corporation, which began production in 1949. Its name was an acronym for Svenska Aeroplan AB, where, AB stands for, aktiebolaget or limited company.
The Saab 9-5 received a midcycle refresh that further refined both the Sedan and SportCombi and in 2006 there are 4 trims available, the 2.3T Sedan without Sport package, the 2.3T Sedan with Sport package, the 2.3T SportCombi Wagon without Sport package and the 2.3T SportCombi Wagon with Sport package.
A turbocharged, 2.3-liter inline four-cylinder rated for 260 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque is standard on all 9-5s. A standard five-speed manual transmission routes power to the front wheels. A five-speed automatic with sport and manual modes is optional. And it offers 20 miles per gallon within the city and 30 on the highway.
Exterior colors include Beige, Smoke Metallic, Black, Black Jet Metallic Blue Fusion, Blue Metallic, Blue Nocturne, Blue Metallic, Gray, Titan Metallic, Red Chili Metallic, Red Laser, Silver Metallic, Parchment Metallic and White, Polar while interior colors are K Black, Obsidian and L Parchment.
All 9-5 models features adaptive-force front airbags, active head restraints and front seat-mounted side airbags, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, stability and traction control which are standard. Out on the road, the suspension improvements result in less body roll during cornering than before, as well as a smooth ride quality overall.
However, the 4-door Saab 9-5 still strikes us as a car that's in need of a full redesign, not just another update. Most drivers will find the 9-5's seats exceptionally comfortable, especially those equipped with the optional heating and ventilation feature. The Saab 9-5 is preferable with the automatic transmission, as its shorter gearing is better suited to the turbo engine's unusual power band. Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels with 235/45R17 all-season tires, leather upholstery, walnut trim, adjustable seats with driver memory, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 240-watt Harman Kardon audio system with an in-dash Compact-disc changer, satellite radio, a sunroof, a heated 60 by 40-split folding rear seat, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
The very first Saab car was designed and hand built by 16 aircraft engineers. Amusing as it sounds, this anecdote sums up all that makes Saab different, Clean, aerodynamic lines, efficiency and functionality, and innovations beyond what people would expect from a car.
