Jaguar XK Series
Jaguar Cars Limited is a British luxury car company with headquarters in Browns Lane, Coventry, England. It was founded as SS Cars Ltd in 1922 and changed its name to Jaguar in 1945. The company has been owned by Ford since 1990. Also Jaguar has an engineering division in Whitley, Coventry. The XK series is a grand tourer produced by the British automaker Jaguar since the 1997 model year. The Jaguar XK is available as a two-door coupe or a two-door convertible. Highlights of the car's standard equipment include 18 inches wheels, an adaptive suspension system, bi-HID headlights, parking sensors, keyless start, leather upholstery, power-adjustable and heated front seats with memory settings for the driver, Bluetooth connectivity, a DVD navigation system, and an in-dash, six-CD changer with MP3 compatibility. Major options include 19-inch wheels with run-flat tires, an adaptive front-lighting system, adaptive cruise control, upgraded front seats with higher-quality leather and a premium surround-sound system. Buyers are also able to choose between burl walnut and poplar wood models. Jaguar XK coupled to the ultra-rigid aluminium spaceframe makes the XK convertible exceptionally rigid for a car of its type, offering an extremely impressive driving experience. For the moment, it is powered by a 300 horse power version of the 4.2 Liter AJ-V8. The new XK has introduced a world first in pedestrian safety. In numerous pedestrian collisions with vehicles, head injuries occur when a pedestrian's head impacts with the bonnet of the vehicle. However, the injuries are not usually sustained from the bonnet itself, rather the bonnet deforming and the pedestrian's head colliding with the engine block underneath. Jaguar's innovation is to have sensors in the front bumper that determine if a pedestrian has indeed been struck and this then triggers two pyrotechnical charges that instantaneously lift the bonnet, providing extra distance between engine and head. In effect, the bonnet becomes the exterior equivalent of an airbag. This potentially life saving device has awarded the all-new Jaguar XK the Engineering and Technology Award at the prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards in London. The XK weighs 3759 lb or 1705 kilograms and features a conventional cloth top that will open or close in 18 seconds. Jaguar has been setting new standards in automotive design and engineering for two decades with a steadfast commitment to bold innovation, precision manufacturing, and exhilarating performance.
