Cadillac DTS
The Cadillac DTS, DeVille Touring Sedan is a full-size luxury sedan from the Cadillac luxury division of General Motors. The DTS replaces the Cadillac DeVille as that carmaker's largest luxury car for the 2006 model year, following the naming and styling direction set by the earlier CTS and STS. The design of the DTS was introduced in a unique way.
A specially-designed and outfitted presidential DTS limousine was utilized during the second inauguration of George W. Bush in the January 20, 2005 parade. While details of the vehicle, codenamed Stagecoach, are highly classified, it is presumed to be heavily armored and feature advanced communication equipment. The production DTS was shown at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show.
The DTS offers a choice of a 4.6-liter Northstar 291 horsepower or the milder 275-horse version V-8. The latter is the torque-hound while the former is the revver, with more peak power and a higher redline. Both are mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Underneath is a new engine cradle design and a host of electronic goodies, including four-channel anti-lock brakes, traction control, StabiliTrak with brake assist, and magnetic ride control. The DTS rides on larger 17- or 18-inch wheels, and brake sizes also have been increased. This 4-door Sedan, with automatic tranmission has a 4.6-liter, 275-horsepower V8 engine giving 17 miles to the gallon within the city and 25 on the highway.
The 2006 Cadillac DTS is brought up-to-date with freshened styling and tightened suspension. A standard MP3, Media Player, player jack in all models and XM radio in most highlight its entertainment features, with StabiliTrak and parking assistance standard on all but the base model.
The 2006 Cadillac DTS's unibody structure makes use of high-strength steel for rigidity where needed and structural foam and nylon to improve crashworthiness. Front and rear crumple zones are assisted by six standard air bags. The dual-depth front passenger air bag deploys a large or small bag depending on impact severity, seat belt use, and seat position. Interior and exterior convenience functions, including door locking, lighting control, and mirror tilt when backing and exit-seat adjustment are also controlled. Trip odometer and tire pressure can also be displayed.
General Motors enjoy an important legacy left by those who went before, a legacy of doing business the right way. Especially in times of increased attention on corporate responsibility, this tradition represents a great asset and but it also carries with it a tremendous responsibility.
