An auto or car dealership is a business that sells new cars or used cars at the retail level. It employs automobile sales staff, service workshops where services for cars are carried out. They employ automobile mechanics, stock and sell spare automobile parts, and process warranty claims also.
Formerly known as International Cars Ltd., it was formed in 1974 and operated as a BMW dealership. In 1976 when a Honda franchise was acquired, Honda North began operations. The Jespersens purchased International Cars Ltd., Inc. in February of 1989 from the previous operator. A total change in management and a focus on efficiency and growth enabled the company to turn from operating losses to profits in the first full year of operation. By continually improving operations and enlisting the members of NADA, National Automobiles Dealers Association, 20 groups the Company was able to increase sales and service business in those first few years. Honda North became the first dealer in the area to open for evening hours and the first to offer all day Saturday service. They were the only Honda dealer in the area offering New Owner Clinics and periodic inspection days. In 1997 they instituted value price, a non-negotiating selling process.
In November of 1998 International Cars acquired its second location, Dover Auto World in Dover, New Hampshire, United States of America. This acquisition added the second Honda franchise plus Chevrolet, Porsche and Audi. During 1999 the entire company experienced significant growth more than doubling sales and gross profit. The total number of employees expanded from 75 to 160.The hard work of all of the employees resulted in receiving the Presidents Award for Honda North and Dover Auto World for 1999. In 2000 International Cars became an Employee Stock Option Plan company setting aside 30 percent of the stock for its employees. As part of the ESOP start-up an internal advisory committee was established consisting of line and manager level associates. Their General Sales Manager is Curt Sylvia. In February 2004, Honda North relocated to a new facility at 382 Newbury Street. This gives them another opportunity to grow and better serve their customers.
